Spring Break – Dont Drink And Drive
Written by Greg on March 10, 2013
The Houston area will fund additional time for the “no refusal” to combat drunk driving accidents in the Houston area. In periods of holidays the drunk driving arrest rate rises approximately 25% from a normal week.
Extra officers will be available during spring break week to investigate allegations of drunken driving by Houston area drivers. The no recusal policy allows the police officers to obtain a warrant for those who refuse to take a breath test or a blood test. Typically, blood test evidence has resulted in a very high conviction rate for those who are arrested for drunken driving.
The old saying on many billboards don’t drive drunk in Texas you can afford it is true. To hire a private attorney to handle a drunk driving defense can cost in excess of ten thousand dollars and if an injury is involved substantially more. Not to mention, the fines and other costs like increased insurance rates.
While the Houston area has been plagued with drunk driving accidents, the no refusal weekends have proven to be very effective weapon in that regard. In the past, many people suspected of drunken driving were able to simply refuse a test and then they had a reasonable chance of prevailing in the case at trial. With the warrant being issued timely, under the no refusal policy, that option is no longer available.
The best advice of course is to designated driver if you are planning on celebrating the holiday break.
