Amputation Resources

Written by Greg on November 27, 2012

There are numerous causes of limb appendage and limb amputation. Vehicle collision and home and workplace accidents are the most common incidents that lead to amputations. Today, people who have suffered the partial or full loss of a limb through amputation can still look forward to leading a full and rewarding life thanks to advanced technologies. What follows is some basic information that should be helpful to amputees and their families.

Support Groups

*If you have lost a limb or are the parent of a child born without a limb – reach out to organizations and support groups. There are dozens of organizations and resources that will help you and your loved ones make the most of the situation.

*Get involved in advocacy groups that will lobby state and federal officials to maintain if not increase their efforts (medical, social and otherwise) with regard to amputation.

*Educate yourself on the opportunities for children to attend youth camps for amputees and other experiences that will normalize their lives and increase their self-esteem. Too, there are scholarships and other opportunities tailored specifically to the amputee child and young adult.

*Stay informed of the latest technological and medical advances specific to your type of amputation. There are miracles being performed every day in the field of amputee medicine.
