A 79-year-old woman was killed when the vehicle she was riding in was involved in a crash with a water delivery truck in North Houston. The crash occurred at the intersection of Gessner Road and Northwest Freeway and involved three vehicles. According to reports, a water delivery truck allegedly ran a red light at the intersection and slammed into the right side of a GMC pickup truck in the intersection. The woman was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the pickup sustained life-threatening injuries. A Toyota passenger vehicle was also involved in the crash. The truck driver was not seriously hurt. The accident is under investigation and the truck driver has not yet been cited. Tow truck drivers in the area saw the situation and immediately sprang into action. They hooked up the water truck and towed it off the pickup truck, allowing firefighters to extricate the driver and passenger. The water delivery company, Nestle Waters North America released a statement sending their heartfelt prayers to the victims and their families and said they are investigating and fully cooperating with law enforcement.

Crash Investigation

Following a serious crash, those concerned will need to cooperate with the investigation procedure. Law enforcement will evaluate the accident scene, take witness statements, and review any video footage that may have recorded the incident. The negligent party is responsible for paying damages to the victims and their families. A crash investigation can be complicated. You should not rely only on the information in the police report. Instead, you want to contact an experienced Houston truck accident attorney as soon as possible so you can begin your own investigation.

There are many things to consider including verifying the maintenance of the truck and the driving record of the truck driver. Also, the truck driver should be evaluated for impairment. The driver should not be driving while fatigued. Another issue to review is whether the driver was distracted at the time of the accident. The negligent driver could have been texting, which is not legal. Distracted driving is a common cause of severe accidents.

Sometimes you need to reconstruct the crash to find out exactly what happened before, during, and after the crash. Your attorney may want to hire a reconstruction professional if there are questions about negligence in the case. In this particular instance, all the drivers survived and may be able to provide some details about what caused the crash. There are also witnesses, who will be instrumental in recounting information about the accident. Multiple vehicle accidents can be extremely complicated to resolve, especially when one of them is a truck.

It is best to seek legal guidance from an experienced Houston truck accident lawyer as soon after the crash as possible. This will ensure that the evidence is still intact. You can rest easy knowing that a skilled attorney is on your side, handling all of the legal aspects of your case so you can concentrate on dealing with the loss.
