A tragic event occurred late yesterday evening when a man’s car broke down on an overpass to Beltway 8 near the Hardy Toll Road. According to reports, the drivers vehicle broke down and he was stalled in the outside lane of traffic. Another vehicle was unaware of the stalled car in front of her and hit the brakes suddenly when the car in front of her turned into another lane to avoid the stalled vehicle.
Apparently, the man jumped from the overpass or fell from the overpass in order to avoid being struck by the braking car. The height was reported to be about 30 feet and the men did not survive the fall.
While police are investigating the incident, reports indicated that the other driver was not impaired and that no charges have been filed in the case.
Terrible tragedies like this occur frequently when vehicle stall on heavily traveled highways particularly at night. It is extremely difficult to anticipate a stalled vehicle when your vision is blocked by a vehicle in front of you.
Stalled vehicle accidents occur not only when vision is blocked by vehicles in front it also when a driver is not expecting it stalled vehicle and not focus solely on the roadway. A minor distraction at the wrong time can lead to disastrous results.
The Baumgartner Law Firm has handled numerous car accident and truck accident cases where a stalled vehicle was involved in the accident scenario.
